1983-1984 - J.J.HENRY CO., INC., NY, Vice President, Marketing strategy with emphasis on foreign client possibilities.

1974-1983 - WESLEY D. WHEELER ASSOCIATES, LTD, President COO of 20 employees with abouit half of staff devoted to agency representation of foreign shipyards and manufacturers, crewing and the other half devoted to technical consulting:

  • Numerous ship surveys for purchase, damage, condition, repair and conversion,
  • Preparation of damage stability booklets for Sea-Land D-9 class containerships,
  • Surveys, preparation of special survey and offhire specifications, bid solicitation and review and negotiation out of bareboat charter of VLCC storage vessel S/T "F.A.DAVIES" for ARAMCO, Houston, den Haag and Daharan, Saudi Arabia,
  • Survey, preparation of plans, specifications, test memos, instruction books and yard supervision of IGS/COW installation for MTL "OSWEG0 HOPE" & "OSWEGO SPIRIT".
  • Complete scantling re-evaluation of the tank section of the tanker S/T "COASTAL KANSAS" significantly reducing class structural renewal requirements,
  • Preliminary design of 30,000 dwt 20 knot RO/RO ship for U.S. government Military Sealift Command charter,
  • Preliminary design of conversion of naphtha tanker S/T "GRAND CORCO" to live sheep carrier,
  • Preliminary design of 283 FEU reefer containership with two gantry cranes for United Brands for construction in Greece,
  • Preliminary design of 25,000 dwt self-unloading bulk carrier for Marine Transport Lines for construction in Spain,
  • Negotiation, design, plan approval and inspection assistance for 4 x 1,000 TEU containership newbuildings at Namura-Imari, Japan for ITEL/Seatrain,
  • Contract design and specifications for the conversion of 2 - 36,000 dwt twin screw tankers to RO/RO ships,
  • Prepared numerous grain trim and stability booklets/loading manuals as well as voyage proforma loading recommendations,
  • Plan approval of 45,000 dwt chemical carriers "OGDEN DYNACHEM" & "HUDSON" for OMI construction at Avondale Shipyards, New Orleans,
  • Supervision of construction of a series of fishing trawlers for India at Coazacoalcos and Salina Cruz, Mexico,
  • Expert testimony for City of Jacksonville, FL vs. Offshore Power Systems regarding aborted shipyard construction,
  • Perfection of $24 million claim of AMOCO Trinidad vs. offshore pipelayer "OCEAN BUILDER I" at Samaan Field, SE Trinidad regarding field shutdown,
  • Expert witness regarding the sinking of the dredge "PITTSBURGH" whilst under tow,
  • Preparation of technical study of the structure of the bulk carrier "HANNA" prior to and cause of failure and sinking,
  • Selection, negotiation, purchase and operation of 2 x 4,000 dwt 'tween deckers "ROMAN EDYTHE" & "ROMAN BERNARD",
  • Managed salvage and negotations of the beaching of the "ROMAN BERNARD" as a CTL,
  • Assisted various banks in vetting of condition for financing and disposing of defaulted ships,
  • Performed many reviews of records at classification society American Bureau of Shipping,
  • Represented Falmouth Dockyards, UK; Hapag-Lloyd Werft, Bremerhaven, Germany; Royal Schelde Shipyard, Vlissingen, The Netherlands; Astilleros Espanoles, S.A., (8 yards), Spain;

1972-1973 - AMERICAN BULK CARRIERS, NY, Technical Director, Fleet of four tankers, four bulk carriers

  • - Assisted in design of conversion of 44,000 dwt tanker "ATLANTIC" (ex"ARIETTA S. LIVANOS" together with forebody of the "PENNSYLVANIA GETTY" forming a tanker of 52,000 dwt and managed the project at Eleusis Shipyard, Greece from NY office.
  • Negotiated contracts for two x 125,000 dwt tankers at VALMET SHIPYARD, Finland
  • Surveyed 24,000 dwt wood chip carrier "YUHO MARU" and converted to bulk carrier "YUKONMART" whilst sailing.

1971-1972 - ASTILLEROS ESPANOLES, S.A., Cadiz, Spain, Technical Counselor

  • Was part of design team for the new $80 million ship factory being constructed at Puerto Real (Cadiz) with a 100 x 525m one million ton graving dock with two 600t gantry cranes able to be tandem operated for 1,200t block lifts. Assisted design team on new 350,000 dwt tankers for MTL and prepared 5,000 + activity PERT chart for the design process.

1970 -1971 - COMMONWEALTH OIL CO., Ponce, Puerto Rico, Construction Superintendent

  • Built new fully coated forebody for naptha and completely refurbished the machinery and accommodations for 30,000 dwt tanker at Wilton-Fijenoord Shipyard, Schiedam, the Netherlands becoming the S/T "GRAND CORCO".

1969-1970 - MERI SHIPPING CO., OY, Helsinki, Finland, Construction Superintendent

  • Designed, negotiated and supervised conversion of the ice-strengthened Baltic tween-decker "FENJA DAN" to the first fully cellurlarized Finnish containership of 240 teu at Malta Drydocks, Valetta, Malta, G.C.

1969 - AMERICAN TRADING AND PRODUCTION CORP, NY, Port Engineer, Naval Architect, Fleet of eight U.S. Flag tankers

  • Responsible for technical problem solving and maintenance of regulatory certificates.

1966-1968 - AMERICAN BULK CARRIERS, INC, NY, Naval Architect

  • Designed conversion of T2-SE-A1 tanker "MIDLAKE" of 17,000 dwt utilizing the forebody of the Societe' Maritime Shell tanker "ISARA" to 34,000 dwt tanker "MIDLAKE" under US flag at Avondale Shipyards, New Orleans, LA.

1966 - H.M.TIEDEMANN & CO., INC.,NY, Commercial Manager

  • Technical advisor to North American Aviation for the conversion of the minelayer/tug M/V "GIANT II" to cable layer for sonar signature field off the Hawaiian Islands. Performed inclining experiment and prepared mission and trim/stability book.
  • Performed technical consultation with team on aircraft carrier "SARATOGA" regarding machinery performance at Mayport Naval Base, FL
  • Solicited commercial clients and supervised staff of 20.

1964-1966 - AMERICAN BULK CARRIERS, INC., NY, Naval Architect

  • Designed, negotiated contract and supervised conversion of tankers S/T "SATUCKET" (T3) with forebody of bulk carrier "MONTAUK" (extanker "J.W.van DYKE") to produce a bulk carrier of 24,000 dwt at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co., VA
  • Designed conversion of T2-SE-A1 tanker TE/S "SABINE" by joining together with Societe' Maritime Shell forebody "ISIDORA" following survey and obtaining all technical data from France to produce the 34,000 dwt tanker "SABINE"
  • Supervised ship repairs, loading and inspections maintaining liason with ABS and USCG for regulatory compliance.

1963-1964 - M.ROSENBLATT & SON, INC., NY, Senior Project Engineer

  • Supervised detailed design working drawings for oceanographic Research Vessels AGOR9 & AGOR10
  • Performed plan approval of MHI 65,000 dwt tankers and Maizuru 42,000 dwt bulk carriers for Maritime Overseas Corp., NY

1962-1963 - REMOLCADORES de MALAGA, Cadiz, Spain, Naval Architect

  • Designed a series of 8t bollard pull developable hull tugs, 2 built.

1961-1962 - COMMERCE TANKERS, INC., NY, Construction Superintendent

  • Model testing, plan approval and construction supervision for the construction of a 25,000 dwt midbody at Sociedad Espanola de Construccion Naval, Matagorda, Cadiz, Spain for US flag T2-SE-A1 tanker "BARBARA" including ABS & USCG approvals.

1959-1961 - JOHN J. McMULLEN ASSOCIATES, INC., NY, Project Naval Architect

  • Designed "ELIZABETHPORT" class (D-6) conversions of T3 tankers to fully cellular containerships for Pan-Atlantic Steamship Co. (later Sea-Land) with midbodies built at Schliekerwerft/Blohm+Voss, Hamburg, Germany
  • Designed conversion of USN auxiliary aircraft carrier/fleet tanker "CIMARRON" class to 34,000 dwt bulk carrier for Isbrandtsen Co., NY.
  • Performed construction cost analysis in Germany for USA DDG construction analysis for Todd Shipyards

1956-1959 - J.J.HENRY CO., INC., NY, Naval Architect and marine Engineer

  • Designed 4-dragarm, rotating spoil arm 4,000 cu.m. hopper dredge "ICOA" for National Bulk Carriers, Inc., NY
  • Performed plan approval on "EXPORT AMBASSADOR" class cargo ships for American Export Lines, Inc., NY
  • Performed structural design of conversion of "MARINER" class cargo ship to passengership "ATLANTIC" for American Banner Lines (Arnold Bernstein) NY
  • Performed detailed cost analysis of C4 cargo ship in Germany for Committee of American Steamship Lines for construction differential subsidy determination
  • Designed series of 36,000 dwt tankers for construction at Ingalls, Taiwan, Shipyard
  • Designed series of 45,000 dwt tankers for construction in Germany for USA major oil companies
  • Performed onsite analysis and ship tests over Waini Bar, British Guyana for transport of manganese ore for Union Carbide Co. in order to design new ships. The test LST actually raised 12" over the mud bar!

1956 - SPARKMAN & STEPHENS, INC, NY, Naval Architect

  • Performed sailing yacht design.

1952-1961 - WHEELER YACHT COMPANY, INC, NY, Naval Architect

  • Completed apprentice program in all departments in wood and fiberglass yacht construction and worked on designs for luxury yachts from 26' to 96' including systems and fittings and lines.
